The Women’s Strategy provides a 10-year roadmap for reform that acknowledges the distinct pathways and experiences of women in the criminal justice system. The Strategy builds on significant reform that has commenced across CSNSW, and responds to the NSW Government’s response to the Special Commission of Inquiry.
The Strategy sets the long-term direction for how CSNSW will improve outcomes for women in the correctional system. It was developed following extensive consultations with over 400 individuals, including women serving orders in custody and the community, government and non-government partners, Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations and CSNSW staff.
The reform will focus on 6 strategic priorities focused on safety, diversion, capability-building, reintegration, community partnerships, and system accountability. It will be delivered through 5 biennial implementation plans, with strong governance and cross-government collaboration being essential to its success.
This artwork, Tidda Malang - Sisters Together by Sarette Fielding, is featured in the CSNSW Women’s Strategy, and reflects and the commitment to uphold and strengthen the dignity, resilience and connectedness of women in the correctional system.
Imagery reflects the ethos of 'being, knowing and doing', as women come together to share their stories and support each other in a future that embraces women and self determination, while recognising the paramount contribution of women to a future of reduced intergenerational harm.
